BIF Recommends? -- Bruce L. Golden (talk) 03:27, 24 June 2024 (UTC)[edit source | reply | new]

Do we need a solid BIF recommends statement/section here?

Re: BIF Recommends? -- Mspangler (talk) 13:24, 24 June 2024 (UTC)[edit source | reply | new]

I'm trying to think of what the recommendation would include. I've tried to outline a list here. 1) If foundation animals are from different breeds of origin or believed to differ in genetic merit BIF recommends fitting of additive genetic groups, metafounders, or covariates to account for these differences. 2) Selection decisions should be taken on the combined genetic merit of individuals (EPD and group effect estimates). What have I missed?

I think that's sufficient. I'll make that change.

Reference for computational approaches -- Mspangler (talk) 13:08, 24 June 2024 (UTC)[edit source | reply | new]

You mention procedures for fitting groups are well described. Should we include a reference?

Re: Reference for computational approaches -- Bruce L. Golden (talk) 13:31, 24 June 2024 (UTC)[edit source | reply | new]

That's the Westell and Quaas papers. I'll add a second pointer to them

Metafounders -- Mspangler (talk) 13:12, 24 June 2024 (UTC)[edit source | reply | new]

You mention IBD. For anyone that were to actually do this, my guess is that they would almost have to use IBS relationships. Worth mentioning?

Re: Metafounders -- Bruce L. Golden (talk) 13:32, 24 June 2024 (UTC)[edit source | reply | new]

One of the papers said IBD so I used that.

Re: Re: Metafounders -- Bruce L. Golden (talk) 22:00, 30 June 2024 (UTC)[edit source | reply | new]

Thinking about IBS, I think they say IBD because their premise is that all identical loci are IBD for some common ancestor, except for mutations to the same state. Those are ignored?

Link for mixed model equations -- Mspangler (talk) 13:15, 24 June 2024 (UTC)[edit source | reply | new]

This seems to be for multi-trait evaluations.

Re: Link for mixed model equations -- Bruce L. Golden (talk) 13:33, 24 June 2024 (UTC)[edit source | reply | new]

Not sure what you're saying. The MME wiki page has both single trait and multi trait?
